1994 : Montgomery County used propane fueled live fire simulators in two burn rooms. The rooms were protected with a spray-on refractory concrete behind suspended Corten steel panels to protect the spray on system from thermal shock. Both the steel panels and structural framing for the panels required frequent replacement and were warped beyond repair. The floors of both rooms were protected with a topping of refractory concrete. However, the floors were spalling and cracking. Therefore, the County directed HTL to install our floor blocks in both rooms in 1994.

1995 : HTL removed the steel panels and installed System 203 in the two burn rooms.

2001 : HTL prepared the live fire training structure for gas prop installation.

As a result, the Owner elected to abandon this building. HTL and FDE Ltd. Engineers (now Elliot LeBoeuf Associates) prepared a report with recommendations to upgrade an adjacent structure to allow the Owner to continue safe training for the foreseeable future.

1994 : The County of Fairfax built their burn building in 1984-85. Shortly after commencing with advanced training, they began to experience spalling and general deterioration of the structure. The building was out of service by October 1986. The County contacted a number of vendors of protection boards, etc. but found no suitable product to withstand the intense heat and thermal shock associated with their training environment. They conducted a thorough search of the available products worldwide. Finally in March of 1994, Fairfax County commissioned HTL to install an assessment lining for test purposes. The County tested the lining for six months by conducting extraordinarily intense burns with temperatures of 1600 to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. At times, they ran approximately 12 evolutions in one day (development of large, twelve pallet burns, extinguishments, with hot face temperatures dropping to approximately 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and development of the next burn). During the six month testing period, training was conducted an average of every other day, with some periods of training being conducted every day. This testing was conducted in a building that had previously been taken out of service due to damage incurred from advanced Class "A" training per NFPA 1403 standards. The County installed thermocouples to monitor the temperatures both on the face and behind System 203. During the course of the six month test period, the temperatures behind System 203 did not exceed 210 degrees Fahrenheit. HTL developed special shapes for corner conditions, a new forming system, and a new 12" x 12" size - all contributing to an even better advanced lining system.

1995 : HTL completely lined all walls, ceilings, and floors on the second and third floors. This project included the construction of a state of the art computerized temperature monitoring system and a separate building in which to house the system.

2001 : HTL installed doors and shutters, repaired concrete damage, and replaced exhausted thermocouples.

1998 : HTL provided System 203 to this privately owned industrial training company to be installed into a flash over simulator being operated in Germany. The system was designed and furnished by HTL for installation by RISC personnel.

1999 : Provided linings and installation for a second flash-over container.

2002 : HTL provided System 203 for installation in the garage area of a new high-rise structure.

2004:  HTL provided System 203 linings for a Class A fire training prop (container)

2007: HTL supplied System 203 to be installed into another training unit produced by RISC.
